Capacity & demand

What can we do when we simply have more cars than we do space on a transportation facility? Before we add more lanes, we may be able to regain some of that capacity by using the system more efficiently. Managing demand during peak periods can involve a variety of strategies from different configurations of a facility to supporting alternative travel options. Travelers might chose things like making their trip at a less congested time, using a transportation mode that moves more people, taking a less congested route, or through a means other than travel on the highway system.
